Event Details

Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Boy Scout Troop 242 is celebrating its Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony. The Boy Scout troop was the first youth organization established by Audrey and Reverend Bill Lawson in the early days of the church. Since its creation in 1965, over one thousand boys and young men have gone through the church’s Scouting program. Troop 242 is proud to report that more than 206 of their own have attained the rank of Eagle Scouts; one the largest number of Eagles to come out of an African American troop in the country. Troop 242 Scouts are trailblazers in business, education, medicine, politics and other professions. There are many, many stories of boys who have been provided support, training and positive role models.

Scouts of all ages speak highly of the impact Troop 242 has had on their lives. They know that Scouting has made them more responsible individuals, teaching them leadership skills and building self-confidence. Parents appreciate all that has been given to their sons in teaching them life skills, and providing a network of positive friends. This camaraderie grew out of participation in so many projects like camping, Scout Fair, selling popcorn, First Aid competitions and the Order of the Arrow, National Youth Leadership Training program.

In honor of this amazing accomplishment, we invite all scouts, former scouts, eagle scouts, scout masters, leaders and families to celebrate with us.
