EDUCATIONAL GRANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

Application Deadline: May 28, 2021 - 5:00 pm

Purpose

To provide a one-time, non-renewable educational grant award for 2021 high school graduates within the family of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church (WABC). The amount of awards offered will vary depending on availability of funds and number of applicants.

Eligibility

Applicant must be a member of WABC for a minimum of 12 months prior to the application deadline. Applicants must graduate from an accredited high school or present an acceptable GED score during the 2020 -2021 school year. Applicant must present proof of enrollment into a post-secondary institution to the WABC Accounting office or Grant Committee Leader before funds are awarded. The institution can be open to any course of study as long as the curriculum meets the generally accepted standard of accreditation from applicable state and/or federal agencies.

Requirements

Applicant must submit an Educational Grant Application, essay, three letters of recommendation, official high school transcript or GED Certification, and a headshot photograph. An application packet (see check list) MUST be submitted on or before the application deadline, Friday, May 28, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants are required to participate in the mandatory online sessions offered by the High School Ministry at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church to be eligible to receive the full grant amount. You have two days to select from for each session; all sessions will be held virtually via Zoom.

  • College Transition - April 17, 2021 or May 1, 2021 at 12 Noon
  • Discipleship and College Life April 24, 2021 or May 8, 2021 at 12 Noon

Part II - Essay (This section must be typed and should not exceed two pages.)
  • Identify and describe one interest/activity, which has most influenced your development.
  • Briefly describe your short and long term goals.
  • Tell us about your interests, activities (including community & church activities), awards, organizations, offices held, employment, etc., and how they have contributed to your development.
  • Provide any additional information that you feel will help the WABC Educational Grant Committee evaluate your application.

Part III - Letters of Recommendation

Submit three letters of recommendation with contact information from a teacher, counselor, or ministry leader. These letters must be submitted by the deadline for the application.


Educational Grant Checklist:

□ Completed Educational Grant Application

□ Essay including outlined requirements (See Part II)

□ List of WABC Involvement, include name of ministry and dates of involvement

□ Three Letters of Recommendation with contact information.

□ Official copy of High School Transcript (Mailed to 3826 Wheeler St., 77004 by the school)

□ Copy of Acceptance Letter from Post-Secondary Institution

□ A Headshot Photograph

****All required items should be submitted electronically via the church website, with the exception of an official transcript which should be mailed to the church directly.****

  • Funds awarded for the Educational Grant will not be released until proof of enrollment from a post-secondary institution is presented to the WABC Accounting Department.
